Feeder ace Dave Howard took Saturday’s big rover as he fished Method and banded pellet to the island at peg 13 on Trio Pool to weigh in 143-1-0 of carp to 9lb plus F1s. Second-placed Greg Newland, on peg 41 of the same lake, had 113-14-0 of carp and F1s again taken on Method and pellet.

BREFFNI ARMS FESTIVAL (MON-FRI) Loughs Gowna & Gulladoo (70 pegs)

Messingham Sands boss Kevin Johnson took this five-day event with an aggregate weight of 56-450, second going to local angler Wayne Fuller with 45-580. Kevin’s week started at peg 1 on Rossduff where he alternated between pole and feeder for 12700. Day two put him on peg 18 by the pumphouse on Lough Gowna at Corfree, where he fished short and long pole lines to win the day with 14-400 of hybrids and roach. Wednesday saw him off to the point at Dernafest and win of pole-caught hybrids for 14-800. Day four was going to be hard as Kevin drew in the middle of Rockfield, but 6-650 kept him in the hunt going into the last day. Kevin was sat on an eight-kilo lead and had to go to Gulladoo, where another good performanc­e from the middle pegs resulted in 8-100 and sealed the festival win.

FISH O’MANIA QUALIFIER (WEDS) Garbolino Lindholme Lakes (95 pegs)

This match was the last chance to qualify for the final, and Tri-Cast/Bait-Tech man Dave Roberts filled his boots to win comfortabl­y on Loco Lake with a massive 249-2-0. He drew peg 19 and fished pellet waggler and then pellet shallow at 14m to weigh in carp and F1s. Runner-up Ian Ridgeway, on peg 21 on Benny’s Lake, had 196-8-0 of F1s on pellet.

This third round saw wins for Hull DAA in division one and Scunthorpe Dynamite in division two. Overall that sees Browning Ossett leading division one and Normanton topping division two. Individual­ly, Mosella Selby’s Dave Scales won with 7-850 of bream and skimmers from peg 278, where he fished chopped worm and caster at 14.5m. Mick Bower, on peg 268, fished the same tactics to take second with 7-550 of bream and skimmers.

Opting to fish the pellet feeder at peg 24, Southport’s Simon Pollard led with 113-4-0 of carp to 5lb, relegating venue boss Andy Molyneux into second on peg 31.

MIRFIELD AC (SUN) River Calder, Mirfield (46 pegs)

Former Barnsley Blacks skipper Tony Peel topped this open with

an 18-12-0 net of bream, chub and grayling. He drew on the Calder Bank Road section and fished caster at 14m. Pete Dwyer was second with 15-14-0 of roach and small chub taken on stick float and caster from his peg on the Ship Inn Weir section. Mosella Quaker began this year’s campaign in winning style as they scored 53 points to get in front of North Ormseby on 57. Quaker also had the top individual in Mick Lovelass, who weighed in 21-12-0 of skimmers at peg 159 fishing maggot at 13m. Maver NE’s Chris Jones followed in second with another skimmerbas­ed 20-10-0 taken on feeder and maggot from peg 153. Another fine attendance saw a familiar name at the top of the frame, as Garbolino’s consistent Chris Kendall hauled out 169-4-0 of carp to 5lb on pellet fished at

6m from peg 21 on the Beech Lake. Mick Trattles wasn’t far behind him, though, with another all-carp catch of 154-2-0.

Lingmere Fishery boss Steve Openshaw is in fine form at the moment, and the Mosella man duly top-scored on Sunday with 140-8-0 of F1s off peg 137 on Canal 5 where he fished caster shallow at 6m all day. Micky Rogerson worked hard for his second-placed 104-1-0 of F1s as he chose to fish maggot and groundbait in the margins of nearby peg 135. Darlington man Peter Bainbridge led them home from peg 50 on the Brown Trout water. He fished waggler and maggot to find a few bream plus lots of dace for 16-2-0 at the scales. Brian Leonard was second with 14-2-0.
