ANGLING TRUST JUNIOR & YOUTH NATIONAL ANGLING CHAMPIONSH­IPS (SAT) Tunnel Barn Farm (96 pegs)

Almost 100 anglers contested this year’s event, with eight teams of six fishing, the Juniors on the Extension, House and Canal Pools while the Youths took on the High and Jenny’s Pools. Only a few fish decided the final individual results in both matches. Topping the Juniors events was 12-year-old Jake Pope, of Junior Match Aid, who drew Extension Pool peg 7, where he caught F1s and carp at 13m on banded pellet for 32-180. Second was Callum Jennings, of Evesham Youth AC, on House Pool peg 4 with 31-000. On the team front, Sensas A4 retained the title for the third year running with a 43-point total. The Youth match was won by Will McCranor, Tri-Cast Weston Red, with 64-600 of F1s and carp from peg 14 on Jenny’s Pool. He caught on caster shallow at 13m. Zak Worby, of Tri-Cast Weston Black, on Jenny’s peg 6 was second with 60-550. Tri-Cast Weston Red secured the title as three of their team finished in the top four, with a 41-point tally.

Winner Mike Davies had no complaints at peg 63, the Barford man netting eight barbel on feeder and pellet to weigh in 54-0-0. Second was Chichester visitor Steve Colwell, on peg 49, who bagged nine barbel using the same approach for 41-12-0.

Weight was needed to decide the winners of this opening round, Sensas Dams & Lock Red getting the nod from Shakespear­e Bait-Tech as both sides scored 16 points. Top rod was Browning Lifestyle’s Bernie Leatherbar­row with 7-9-12 of skimmers at peg 142, where he fished maggot at 13m. Experience­d Simon Nickless was second with 6-5-4.

The honours went to Maver Midlands man Steve Broome with 22-6-0 of skimmers from peg E45, where he caught on caster and worm fished at 14.5m. Tom Barlow, of Maver NW, was second with 18-10-0 of skimmers on caster.

End peg 1 won the match and ensured qualificat­ion for Tim Biddle as the Worcester angler returned 15-4-0 of bream, eels and perch fishing a combinatio­n of feeder and pole. Phil Bishop was second with 11-9-0.

A brace of barbel secured the honours for Jim Brockie on Saturday as the Sensas Smithy’s man drew peg 29 and fished the feeder with maggot to weigh in 13-14-0.

Bream again decided the honours, but the weights were close as 10oz divided the top three. Deben rod Steve Kindleysid­es won off peg 77 with 50-12-0 of bream and skimmers on groundbait feeder and maggot or worm. Teammate Paul Hudson bagged 50-11-0 of bream and skimmers.

Winner Chris Dixon had a specimen 2lb roach in his 28-13-0 haul, the Hallow AC man adding barbel and chub to his net. He fished the bomb with maggot and pellet. Second was Bridgenort­h rod Dave George with 21-6-0 of chub and barbel.

The silverware went to Barnstone Leg Ends as they scored 11 points, matched by Bottesford Gold,

but Barnstone’s 50-0-8 weight was ample to see them home. Top individiua­l and helping them to win was Kelvin Redwood, of Barnstone AC Leg Ends, who took 40-10-0 of bream on pole and corn from his peg near the willows at Dockholme Lock.

Steve Cooke has another big final to look forward to this summer after qualifying for Fish O’Mania recently. The Garbolino old hand made it through to the Feedermast­ers final after winning this qualifier with 104-12-0 of carp from peg 69 on the Moat Pool. He fished Method feeder and pellet. Also in the final are zone winners Al Kuzas and Marius Grigaitis.
