IT’S A CLASSIC RESULT FOR SCOTT!
‘Words can’t describe excitement at joining 40s club’
“FINALLY, my invite to the 40s club!”
That’s how Scott Jones described the moment he banked this incredible 48lb 8oz mirror, aptly known as the Classic.
The fish came from a Kent park lake and was only landed after a lengthy battle in a heavily weeded swim.
“It was worth all the blanks through winter and the 100-plus nights,” said Scott, who arrived for his session after work on Friday and set up in the New Cut swim.
“After a couple of casts, I found a small, clear spot and the two rods were on the spot by around 9pm.
“I woke up at 5am watching the water, wondering why I didn’t have a bite after seeing a few over me late Friday night.
“Then, around 7am, my lefthand rod had a few bleeps and it was away, line ticking off the reel.
“I jumped out of my bedchair, put my waders on and was into a carp. The fish was coming in quite nicely, but then at around 30 yards it dived into a weedbed.”
Scott inched towards the fish, and got a soaking as the water level rose above his waders, but she didn’t come free for another half-an-hour.
“Then,” said Scott, “after another five minutes of her trying to get back out there she was in the bottom of my net.
“Looking into that net, I saw my first 40lb-plus carp and the moment I had been dreaming of. Words cannot describe my excitement.”
