Itchen roach falls to a fly

ANDREW Mussellwhite targeted a private stretch of the River Itchen in Hampshire, where he scored with this pristine 2lb 4oz roach.

In low, clear conditions he decided to stalk the venue’s redfins with a small home-tied nymph on fly tackle.

In other recent trips Andrew has proved he’s a dab hand at more conventional tactics for the species, having taken a 2lb 3oz roach on a freelined piece of breadflake.

Andrew has now caught three roach over 2lb from the Itchen.
