DOUBLE CREAM FROM CORNWALL
Personal-best common and mirror in 48-hour Argal hit
CORNISH carp don’t get much better than this handsome pair from Argal Reservoir.
Stefan McKnight caught the Big Fully at 31lb 4oz and a 29lb 14oz common during a 48-hour session on the 65-acre day-ticket fishery.
The 23-year-old said: “I turned up on the Friday evening after work in thick drizzle and a strong westerly wind.
“When I arrived in the swim I immediately saw a couple lump out in front, about 40 yards out.”
The Truro angler received a take within two hours, but suffered a hook-pull.
“Later that night,” he added, “I landed one of the real gems of the lake on the same rod out in open water – the Big Fully at 31lb 4oz.
“It’s my new English pb and I was over the moon!”
A low double followed two hours later. “With one more night to go it was everything to play for, and I was still confident,” said Stefan.
“In the early hours, just like the night before, the rod was away again. This resulted in a 29lb 14oz common, which was also my new pb common.
“I was elated! That was to be the last of the action before heading home, but what a trip and what awesome photos taken by my twin brother.”
Stefan fished Sticky Manilla pop-ups on combi rigs made with size 6 Korda Wide Gape hooks and 20lb Korda Dark Matter hooklinks.
He spread Sticky Krill bottom baits over his spot.
