SILVERS STEALING THE SHOW AT ASTON

-

IT’S not carp but silverfish that are making the headlines at Aston Park right now, with anglers reporting 50lb-plus nets of silver fish on the complex’s Stable, Butts, Split, Lily and Lanta lakes.

Shallow-fished caster is the number one tactic for these fish, which are made up mostly of big ide to 2lb. You don’t need to fish too far out, with anglers coming as close as 4m from the bank to put together a weight.

This tactic also works well on many of the other lakes, particularly Split Lake. Here chub, roach and skimmers are also joining the party, with anglers catching well by loosefeeding three or four casters over the top of a light pole or waggler rig.

Start fishing close to or on the bottom, but shallow up when bites fade, as the fish will come up as you continue to feed. There are also bonus carp averaging around 6lb in this pool, and these can be targeted in the margins or at around 14m out on the deck fishing corn, Swim Stim paste and pellet, or on the feeder or bomb with pellet hookbaits.
