NATURAL SILVERS VENUE
THERE are few natural venues where you can experience 40lb plus nets of silverfish but that’s exactly what anglers are enjoying at Kent’s Mote Park.
Skimmers and roach makeup the weights and the fishing will probably get even better as we go into early autumn.
The venue is run by Maidstone Victory AS. Wooden platforms make fishing comfortable and all can produce fish, but the best area tends to be off the dam wall, where regulars fish a groundbait feeder in 8ft of water for bream to 7lb.
Alternatively you can target the roach. In the summer these fish can be caught in as little as 3ft of water. Some anglers fish a whip to bag up with fish in the 8oz-12oz bracket, with the odd better specimen to over 1lb.
Double-figure carp are caught too, along with large pike and good tench and perch. Parking is restricted to the café area at the top of the bank, and there is no access for cars (other the wall side. Entry by car is restricted to standard park opening times.
