SIX OF THE BEST – WITH A VENUE NEAR YOU!

-

WHILE other species start to become harder to catch as the temperatures begin to drop, big perch can be relied on to provide some cracking autumn action. From commercial fisheries to urban canals, the species are also one of the most widespread. Here are six waters to try.

ATHERSLEY MEMORIAL LAKE, BARNSLEY, SOUTH YORKSHIRE

Tiny sections of worm alongside a few casters will produce perch over 3lb. Pegs in the mid-teens close to the reedbeds are the hotspots. Contact: 07402 682899 Postcode: S71 3JU

FOSSDYKE CANAL, LINCOLN, N LINCS

The pegs at the top end of the canal by Torksey Lock are alive with perch in the colder months. You can get them to over 3lb. Contact: Harrisons 01522 523834 Prices: £4 on the bank Lincoln DAA

HAMPTON SPRINGS, HAMPTON MALPAS, CHESHIRE

Fishing close to the islands on Alice Springs will put you in with a chance of finding a perch nudging 4lb. Try the straight lead or waggler with maggots and worms. Contact: 01948 820789 Postcode: SY14 8AD

NEW JUNCTION CANAL, SYKEHOUSE LOCK, SOUTH YORKSHIRE

The pegs on the lock have always been known as perch hotspots with the chance of some big specimens to over 4lb. Contact: Doncaster DAA 01302 539035 Prices: £4 on the bank, Doncaster DAA

RIVER ANCHOLME, BRIGG, NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE

Few anglers target them, but there are some monster perch in this river. Fishing the pole or waggler with chopped worm should see you catch a few, especially around the leisure centre. Contact: 07951 822639 Prices: £4 on the bank, Scunthorpe Amalgamated Anglers

WOODHOUSE GRANGE FISHERIES, DONCASTER, SOUTH YORKS
