Pit stop for a hungry young bird of prey

I HAVE to share with you something I witnessed when I was fishing our club lake recently.

It was early in the morning and I was fishing the feeder for carp when, seemingly out of nowhere, a large bird of prey appeared and plunged into the water.

It took off again seconds later with a decent-sized F1 in its talons and was gone in seconds. It all happened so quickly that I wondered whether I imagined it but I hadn’t – several others saw it too. Apparently it was a young osprey, stopping off for lunch on its way to Africa for the winter. Dale Stephens, Oakham
