Angling bids for big funding
ANGLING clubs are being urged to apply for their share of a £13 million pot of cash.
The windfall is available as part of Sport England’s Community Asset Fund and Small Grants Schemes, which aim to help sporting organisations improve their facilities.
Many clubs have already taken advantage of such cash in previous years, with groups receiving grants to undertake improvements such as building new platforms, restocking lakes, or building otter fencing.
One club which has already successfully applied for cash from the Community Asset Fund, formerly the Inspired Facilities Fund, is Nottingham Federation of Anglers.
The Midlands outfit received £65,000 to redevelop its Finger Ponds Fishery in Nottingham to get more youngsters and disabled anglers into the sport.
The club’s secretary, Ian McLaughlin, said: “The money has been spent on making the whole fishery wheelchair accessible including pegs and parking on the lakes and the adjacent stretch of the Trent. The complex is well under way to being totally transformed and this winter we will be restocking it before the grand opening next year.”
Both schemes can be applied for through the Angling Trust.
