AF­TER catch­ing my first UK ‘50’ in late sum­mer and then my sec­ond in Septem­ber, I don’t want to let things slip as we go into what is, to my mind, the best time to catch the re­ally big fish – late au­tumn!

Spring is the best time to catch num­bers of carp, but au­tumn is when the big­ger fish feed more strongly. I pre­sume this is be­cause they need to sus­tain a larger frame in the cold months, so need to feed later in the year to en­sure they only have to pick at food in win­ter. Here are my tips for track­ing down big carp this month – which is one of the best!
