CARP angler James Adams took a break from his usual quarry to do some trotting – and was rewarded with this lovely 9lb 6oz barbel.

James headed to a stretch of the Hampshire Avon on his birthday, and after struggling to catch on the float he switched to a legered meat outfit.

Before he had the chance to finish rolling a cigarette, the rod-tip arched over and his new personal best for the species was his.
