AN ANGLER caught his first UK 30-pounder – then caught it again less than a minute after releasing it!
John Gowdy was enjoying a birthday session at Burton Carp Pit in Staffordshire when he hooked into his long-awaited target fish, a distinctive-looking common named Patch at 30lb 8oz.
“We got a nice picture and released it down the bank from me. I walked back to my swim and heard my alarms going off again – the same
rod on the same spot.
“I was thinking ‘what the hell?’, but it turned out to be the same fish – it must have only been 10 seconds since I released it.”
The second capture was witnessed by two of John’s mates.
He added: “I couldn’t believe it!”
