HREE-QUARTERS of a mile of the River Eden and five lakes make Gabriel’s rather different.
The river holds chub, perch, pike, roach, gudgeon, a few big carp and increasing numbers of barbel. On the lake front, Hare Lake offers carp, bream, roach, rudd, even chub, dace and gudgeon.
For match anglers, Silver Lake holds tench, barbel, perch, roach, chub, carp and grass carp. Swallow Lake, is a runs water and is packed with carp to 10lb.
Oak Lake holds carp to 33lb, roach, rudd, perch and bream. A minimum 42ins landing net and bean bag-style unhooking mat is a must. For something even bigger, the carp in Admiral Lake run to over 40lb. Gabriel’s also has a caravan and camping site with toilets and hot shower facilities for those who would like a longer vacation.
