19-FISH HIT AT MONUMENT 2

Boosted spod mix takes carp to 30lb

-

ON THE day a popular day-ticket water with winter form allowed the use of maggots, Craig McEvoy went slightly against the grain and bagged 19 fish.

Monument Two in Shropshire only allows maggots between November and February.

“This was the first session that maggot was allowed this year,” said Craig, who had eight twenties and a 30lb 4oz common.

“I knew most anglers would be relying on the wrigglers, but I thought it was a little early for just maggots – I wanted to give them a bit of food.”

Fishing to the base of a clay bar at 56yds, Craig used the Monument spod mix and maggot glugged with Dynamite Baits Red Ammo liquid. He said: “I fed little and often and it didn’t take long for the first bite to come – then it didn’t stop, resulting in double takes!

“By 2pm I had run out of bait and phoned the wife to go to the tackle shop for some more!

“Although it cost me a curry and McDonald’s for the kids, it was money well spent.

“I reeled in at night to get some rest but spodded out a couple of kilos before getting my head down. The action continued within five minutes of casting back out and by the end of the day I was exhausted.

“With 19 fish, nothing smaller than mid-doubles, I was blown away at what has to go down as one of the most enjoyable, if not tiring, sessions of big-carp fishing I have ever had!”
