JEREMY’S TOP 5 RIVER MONSTERS MOMENTS

-

1

In my very first River Monsters series I did battle with a goonch catfish, which saw me dive into the Indian river in which I hooked it. I only had one cameraman left as the rest of the crew had gone home by then, but he captured the moment perfectly. That extreme action kick-started this amazing journey.

Setting out to catch a Goliath tiger fish in the Congo is a big gamble which is magnified when you have cameras present and a programme to get in the bag. But we did it. What an awesome creature that was!

3

I have a lot of history with giant arapaima and I’m not a great fly angler, so when I caught one on the fly I was blown away. I had to put a lot of work into my technique and practise for that fish.

Going down into the dark oceanic depths in a homemade submersible is right up there with my best-ever experiences during River Monsters. Three people in a two-man piece of apparatus diving over 600 metres to see what’s on the bottom. Wow, what an experience!

There aren’t many times when I wish I didn’t have to devote my full attention to fishing. But drifting down a river in Mongolia took my breath away. It was absolutely magical! I just wanted to wind in the line, sit back and take it all in.
