RIVERS & CANALS
KENNET & AVON CANAL, DEVIZES, WILTS
Most methods and baits are producing good bags of skimmers and roach, including pinkies over groundbait and bread punch. Contact: Premier Angling, 01249 659210 Prices: £3.50 a day, Devizes AA, purchased in advance
RIVER GREAT OUSE, MILTON KEYNES, BUCKS
An under-rated stretch of the Ouse which has in the past produced barbel to 17lb and perch to 4lb. It is also worth a visit for good nets of chub, dace and roach. Contact: 01908 237231 Prices: £10 a day from the fishery
RIVER LODDON, READING, BERKS
This enchanting river winds its way across the western side of the country park. You can find an exceptionally good quality of fish in the river, with barbel, chub, perch and pike being the main targets. Lobworms are by far the best bait for a variety of fish on this stretch at this time of year. Contact: 0118 974 6343 Prices: £5 a day from the country park ticket machines
RIVER SHEPPEY, POLSHAM, SOMERSET
This deceptively small river is full of chub, roach, dace and gudgeon. A match held on the Fenny Castle stretch recently saw plenty of anglers catching double-figure nets of small fish on stick float or pole tactics. Contact: Somerset Angling, 01278 431777 Prices: £7 from Somerset Angling Centre, Glaston Manor AC
ROYAL MILITARY CANAL, HYTHE, KENT
The sections at Ladies Walk and Sainsburys are both producing good bags of skimmers, roach, eels and perch to small baits. The odd pike is showing to lures on the same stretches. Contact: Cinque Ports AS, 01303 891450 Prices: £5 on the bank, Cinque Ports AS
