CARPING OWES A LOT TO THAT FAIRBRASS CHAP!

-

BACK in the day, when I was selling Daiwa tackle, I bumped into a chap selling leads in a tackle dealers in Upminster... proper ‘carp’ leads they were, and the chap’s name was Fairbrass.

I wished him well, but my head told me the potential for failure outweighed the odds of success.

It’s hard to comprehend now, but freshwater weights more or less stopped at an ounce-and-ahalf... anything above that was in the sea department. Lead clips or ‘safety’ rigs were unheard of. I was fairly conversant with that side of the tackle industry, having been in retail for 15 years and being good mates with the late Bob Gleed of Thamesley Tackle, the leading maker of lead shot, weights and feeders.

Well, the Fairbrass chap did make it work and this year Korda celebrates 25 years in an industry that has evolved more during that time than at any other.

While the company’s innovation and enterprise is undeniable, what has impressed me is the quality of every single Korda – or, for that matter, Guru – item I have ever used. But for me, the most impressive thing is what the company puts back into the sport.

Korda has supported many initiatives, always from behind the scenes, and produced hundreds of hours of topquality video, digital media and television programmes that all encourage us to fish better.

And all from a few leads...
