It was hard going in the snow, and bitterly cold. Just 15-8-0 won the day for Sensas man Kevin Tipton, who fished peg 60 with cage feeder and maggot and pinkie to take skimmers.

This was a cold day on the canal but the leading weights were respectabl­e, with Browning Central Silverlite man Carl Smith leading the way on 8-0-0 of roach and a few skimmers. He fished breadpunch at 11m and bloodworm at 12m. Second went to Dave Horton with 6-13-8. On the team front, Browning Central Xitan won with 11 points.

Phil Canning stretched his league lead to four points after topping this round with 40-5-0 off peg 36 on Geary’s Level Pool, where he fished bomb and bread to net carp to 6lb.

COLMIC GOLDEN ROD REEL CHAMPIONSH­IPS QUALIFIER (SAT) Ferry Meadows Lakes (50 pegs)

This qualifier was expected to be rock-hard, and so it proved, with only three anglers catching. That meant that one zone and the place in the final that goes with it had to be drawn. Ricky Teale was the lucky name to be drawn and he joins match winner Joe Wheeldon and runner-up Jason Farmer at Larford in March. Joe drew peg 40 on Gunwade Lake and landed one bream on cage feeder and maggot for 6-13-0.

DRENNAN SILVERFISH WINTER LEAGUE (SAT) Rycroft Fishery (40 pegs)

The Carp Lake produced the top two weights, with Long Eaton Victoria man Kev Hales winning at peg 2 with 16-2-0. He fished red maggot over chopped worm and caster in groundbait to net skimmers and roach.

Result: 1 K Hales, Long Eaton Victoria, 16-2-0; 2 C Hughes, Daiwa, 12-10-0; 3 S Plant, Max Tackle, 10-9-0; 4 D Guess, Long Eaton Victoria, 10-5-0.

HAJAC WINTER LEAGUE (SUN) Old Nene, March & 20ft Drain & Exhibition Bridge (48 pegs)

The 20ft Drain was the place to be in this round, with the top weights coming off it.Sensas Mark One White’s Ray Malle won the match from the section at the footbridge with a fine 32-3-0 of roach and hybrids taken on maggot and pinkie over groundbait fished at 6m. Alex Bates, in the same section, had 25-1-0 of roach adopting the same approach.
