Midlands Focus on Spring Lea Fishery, Shrops, plus great swims to head for now

SPRING LEA FISHERY, LEA CROSS, SHREWSBURY, SHROPSHIRE

-

EVERYONE is welcome at this picturesque complex nestling in the Shropshire countryside. Its five day-ticket lakes suit a variety of angling styles, from pleasure to match.

Currently fishing well during this cold spell is Mallard Lake, with recent match weights of up to 50lb from peg 32.

Tactics involve using the pole to present either pinkies or maggots, consistently feeding little and often for best results.

Those after bream, which run to 10lb, should try fishing the feeder, again with maggot hookbaits. Other hot pegs on this lake include 3, 12 and 47.

Orfe Lake is also fishing well considering the temperatures, with bags of 28lb falling from peg 11 in recent matches. Again maggots or pinkies on the pole bring the best results.

Due to open soon is a new lake, to be known as Canal. Primarily a silver fish venue, it’s one to watch. For the carp anglers among you, specimen fish to 25lb inhabit some of the lakes here.

Open matches are held on a regular basis – the over-55s hold an event every Thursday, with unrestricted opens every Sunday.

In the pipeline is an open pairs match every Saturday – contact the fishery for more details. Hospitality here is second to none, with camping pitches available for family holidays, an on-site café open seven days a week, shower/toilet facilities and a bait shop.
