INSERT WAGGLER RIG

-

DON’T think that commercial fisheries are all about carp!

Before this species really starts to feed, anglers who prefer to catch silver fish can enjoy some great sport with this simple insert waggler rig.

Use red maggots to start with and loosefeed regularly, changing to casters later for the better quality fish.

A HOOK BAIT

With the water still being cold, maggots are likely to be the best hookbait to use. Small, ‘nuisance’ fish shouldn’t be too much of a problem at this time of year.

B INSERT WAGGLER

Because you’re fishing a lake and not a river, you don’t need the buoyancy of a straight waggler. Use an insert waggler and dot it down.

C REGULAR LOOSEFEED

Don’t cast too far out and make sure you can loosefeed easily around your float. Casters would be a good choice of loosefeed.

D SHOTTING PATTERN

Keep this simple. Your shotting pattern should be determined by the depth of the water. In less than 4ft, just a couple of No8 shot will be ideal.

E SETTING YOUR FLOAT

If it’s windy, plumb the depth and set your float so that the hook is lying a few inches on the bottom. In calm conditions, fish the exact depth of the water.
