THE DISTANCE TO FISH AT
“Elm Lake at Decoy is around 35m wide, so fishing at 14.5m on the pole I reasoned would put me close the middle of the lake, while leaving enough of a gap between myself and the angler opposite if he also fished this distance – space to give fish somewhere to back off into.
“I also thought that with anglers either side of me, few fish would come short despite the water having a bit of colour to it, so 14.5m in the deepest water at the longest range would give me my best chance of catching well.”
