THWART THOSE GLORY-HUNTERS

-

DOM Garnett’s column is fast becoming my turn-to page in Angling Times. However, last week he asked: “Is there anything more natural than wanting to share news of a great catch with friends?’

If I didn’t work in the angling media and hadn’t been part of the angling industry for over 40 years, no, I don’t think I’d want to share details of my catches.

IHowever, many people need to do just that. I find it admirable that they disguise where they’ve caught the fish because if they didn’t, the catch-at-all-costs glory-hunters would be there. And people wonder why I’m against the abolition of the closed season, when it is inevitable that fish, heavy with spawn, would be subject to just the type of behaviour the enforced break was set out to discourage.
