Yellow card, Martin!

I HAVE the deepest respect for Martin Bowler. I love reading his articles, watching his online videos and his ‘My Life in Angling’ interview on YouTube, which showed a well-informed, grounded professional angler with great insight and perspective on the sport.

Then I read his column in Angling Times (March 6 issue). What the heck was he trying to promote?

I quote: “This is the time of year to catch a monster pike, plump with spawn.”

Is life not difficult enough for fish stocks in our rivers with pollution, predation and water extraction, without encouraging anglers to target gravid fish?
