THOUSANDS of anglers across the UK are set to benefit from an initiative put in motion to help bring more people into the sport.

World Fishing Day, which is taking place on Friday, 23 June 2018, is expected to reach out to 200 million anglers globally in a bid to get them to go fishing, take part in an event or watch a 24-hour live fishing TV show.

The idea was created by angling television broadcaster Fishing TV, the aim being to see more people fall in love with this brilliant hobby and unite the angling community – with the ultimate goal of encouraging more people to take up fishing.

Angling Times spoke exclusively to Fishing TV’s commercial director, Ed Burgass, to find out more about what will be happening in the UK on World Fishing Day.

He said: “We’re making good headway with the event and are working closely with the Angling Trust to organise various activities across the UK for the community to get involved in.

“On the day the live show will be hosted in a news anchor-style fashion from a studio in London.

“An impressive line-up of hosts will include Angling Times columnist Keith Arthur, TV journalist Fiona Armstrong and the presenter of The Wright Stuff, Matthew Wright.

“We are also going to host a live Carp Wars match involving renowned anglers Ian Chillcott, Harry Pratt, Lee Morris and Iain Macmillan.

“We really hope the public will get involved too, by sending in their own live streamed matches.

Ed Burgass added: “The show is a long way off yet but it’s coming together really well – so just watch out for further updates on events over the coming months!”
