A WEIRD FISH IN HEAT OF THE DAY

41lb 10oz Bluebell oddity to pop-up

-

IS IT a mirror? Is it a common? This unique-looking carp weighing 41lb 10oz was caught by Gary Denniss during a 72-hour session on Bluebell’s Kingfisher Lake.

With less-than-ideal conditions of bright sun and high air pressure, the landscape gardener from Skegness was taken by surprise when one of his rods burst into life in the middle of the afternoon.

“There have been a lot of fish coming out on zigs this year and I have to admit to not being the greatest zig angler, so this has affected my results slightly.

“The day before, my mate had caught one off the bottom on boilies so I repositioned all three of my rods on the deck over a scattering of 3kg of Key Baits Solutions ASM boilies,” said Gary, who targeted a small gravel patch at the back of a bed of onion weed in 16ft of water on the popular Northants day-ticket water.

“The fight was incredible! It’s a real brute of a fish and it went on several long and powerful runs when all I could do was hang on. I was delighted when I saw which fish it was as it came over the net. It’s such a distinctive carp and one of the most desired fish in the lake,” he added.

Gary fished a white pop-up hookbait on a stiff hinge rig consisting of a Korda N-Trap Semi Stiff boom and a 15lb E-S-P Stiff Rig Bristle Filament hooklink with a size 6 Ashima C820 hook.
