UP FOR IT AT LAMBWATH!

Amazing surface carp sport here

-

SUMMER is nearly here, folks, and with it we welcome the arrival of some long-awaited sunshine.

Carp in fisheries all over the country can now be seen basking in the heat – making them vulnerable to a surface or shallow fishing approach.

One place that’s perfect for up-in-the-water tactics is East Yorkshire’s Lambwath Lakes, where carp are now breaking the surface on all five pools.

Angling Times News Editor Ian Jones popped down for an evening’s pellet waggler fishing to see if he could tempt a few fish on this popular technique.

A FISH A CHUCK

“It must have been six in the evening and on arrival in the fishery carpark I could already hear the tell-tale signs of carp slapping their tails on the surface,” Ian said.

“Walking up the hill next to the 28-peg Lambwath Lake, I decided this was the water to fish after seeing a number of near double-figure carp break the surface.

“Most of these fish were clearly feeding on the scum clinging to a rope running right across the water so it was here that I planned my attack.”

To kick-start the session Ian fed three pouchfuls of 6mm pellets to the rope and after a number of swirls on the surface it was clear that the carp were up for a feed.

“I slipped an 8mm pellet on to the band and hit a plum cast in front of the rope,” added Ian.

“Before I could pick up the catapult the float shot under and a 6lb common was soon in the net…this was just the start of a

very hectic session.”

In the next two hours Ian must have caught 150lb of carp by fishing just a foot deep on the pellet waggler.

Not only that, but other anglers on the lake doing equally well both shallow and on the deck with paste in the margins.

If the action on Lambwath Lake is typical of the complex then the other four pools are certainly worth a look too.

So if you fancy a bumper net of shallow-caught fish in just a couple of hours, be sure to put Lambwath on your to-do list.
