South Our guide to the White Acres complex and hot fisheries to head for now

-

REGARDLESS of your angling ability or style, this fishery certainly boasts a lake to deliver your angling fix this week…

We’re talking about the formidable White Acres complex in Newquay, Cornwall, where visitors will discover 13 lakes to target – but which ones are currently on form? And how should you approach them?

Angling Times spoke to fishery manager of 20 years, Clint Elliott, who had this to say: “You can fish the entire complex here on a day ticket, aside from Pats Pool and Nelsons which are run as specimen lakes.

“You’ll be spoilt for choice on the rest of the complex – whatever your favourite tactic, whether it be pole, waggler or feeder, it will work here.

“It is also a brilliant place to try new tactics. You’ll get plenty of bites to test them properly.”

Regular Angling Times columnist and England match star Des Shipp recently spent the week at the complex fishing in the Guru Festival. He tackled several lakes, with various approaches.

He kicked off on Pollawyn Lake using a Method feeder and pellet approach, followed by caster and corn on the pole at 10m, before finally attacking the swim shallow with a waggler – all methods produced bites, testament to Clint’s words.

Des then spent a day on Jennys Lake, where fishing the long pole at 16m with pellet shallow and worm produced several carp and carrassio.

He used similar tactics a day later on Trelawney Lake to take one of his biggest weights of the week at 90lb 7oz – corn down the edge, followed by pellet and worm shallow on the long pole, produced the goods.

Silver fish are to be found in most of the lakes on site and those after them should try fishing maggot over groundbait, either presented on the pole or waggler. You’ll find mainly roach and skimmers, and a 20lb bag is

certainly on the cards. LOCATION: The Tackle Lodge, White Acres Holiday Park, White Cross, Newquay, Cornwall, TR8 4LW CONTACT: 01726 862 526 or 01726 862 519 PRICES: Adults £10 per day, concessions £6
