TWO VISITS – TWO BESTS AT BLUEBELL

Welsh rod breaks pb on a long zig rig

-

“It still doesn’t feel real. Two three-day sessions, 11 runs, six fish”

STEVE Parrotte is growing very fond of Bluebell Lakes after breaking his pb for the second time in two visits.

The Welsh angler’s first trip to the day-ticket complex in Northants saw him net a 36lb mirror and a 20lb common, but he returned recently to land four more, including this mighty 45lb 12oz common from Kingfisher Lake.

The 32-year-old said: “Four weeks after my first session on ‘Kingy’ I was bursting to get back, and I left Wales at 3am.

“After setting up at the crowded lake on the back of the wind, we started to see a few fish show.”

Steve’s earlier fish had come on zig, so he opted for the same approach, sending 10ft 6ins hooklengths out into the swim.

A 25lb common came on the first night, followed by a 26-pounder the next morning and then a beautiful 37lb 2oz mirror at first light a day later.

On the final morning Steve received a take on his middle rod and got into the water to subdue the fish.

“I noticed as the fish came in that, to my horror, the lead was still on. My legs went as I saw the huge fish roll, but as I was 20ft out in the water I netted her before she realised.

“I was gobsmacked as the scales swung round and settled on 45lb 12oz. What a session – it still doesn’t feel real. Two threeday sessions, 11 runs, six fish.”

Steve used 12lb Nash Zig Flo line and size 10 Nash Claw hooks and black foam.
