Holiday hauling! Specimen ace Dai Gribble reveals his tips for rock fishing action.

Dai reveals how easy (and fun) holiday sea fishing can be…

-

WITH the summer holidays underway a lot of anglers will be heading for the seaside and this is the perfect opportunity to try something different in your fishing.

Many popular holiday areas have rocky coastlines that provide a great opportunity to catch some truly amazing, and colourful varieties of fish like wrasse, mackerel, pollock, and gurnard, often just under your feet.

I love sea fishing off the rocks as a bit of a break after spending a lot of time pursuing coarse species through the spring and early summer and my approach is very much one of learning as I go along.

It’s like learning to fish all over again and the scope for experimenting with new ideas is endless.

It makes a refreshing change from a more meticulous approach many coarse anglers take the majority of the time.

The rig I use casts really well and it is always worth casting away from the rocks into open water where there is a good chance of mackerel. It is exciting fishing waiting for the float that is moving with the swell of the sea to suddenly disappear from sight. Whilst not as prolific as catching them on feathers they fight superbly on float tackle.

It never ceases to amaze me how hard even small pollock and wrasse fight on float tackle so be prepared or they will take you into kelp or under rocks. One of the great joys of sea fishing is you never know what you might catch and a big pollock or bass can turn up anywhere.
