Venue expert’s three section wins put result beyond doubt

DRENNAN WESTWOOD LAKES OVER 50s FESTIVAL (TUES-THURS) Skylark, Swallow, Osprey & Falcon Lakes (108 pegs)

THIS inaugural Over 50s three-day event proved a massive hit. It was sold out well in advance, and attracted anglers from across the UK. Handsome backing came from Drennan, and five-times World Champion Alan Scotthorne was there to hand out the prizes.

Winner, with a perfect three-point score, was venue local Rick Tweddle. He kicked off his campaign with a section win thanks to 131-0-0 of F1s on pellet fished in the edge on Falcon Lake, a day won by Richard Kinnersley with 218-8-0 of carp from the margins of Skylark.

On day two Rick, on Osprey Lake, was kept busy by the small F1s, bagging 200-12-0 of them on pellet short and in the edge for another section win.

Mick Stamp won the day on Skylark Lake with 220-6-0 of carp from the edge and across to the island with pellet.

Going into Thursday’s final match, Rick drew Skylark peg 34 where, fishing pellet across at 14m and down the edge, he took mainly carp for a level 155-0-0 and that all-important section win.

Top rod on the day was Barry Bush with 200-10-0 of F1s from Falcon Lake.

Overall result:

1 R Tweddle, Westwood Lakes, 3pts; 2 M Stamp, Preston Innovations, 4 (577-12-0); 3 R Kinnersley, Westwood Lakes, 4 (560-14-0); 4 B Bush, Birkenhead, 4 (498-14-0); 5 R Nicholls, 5; 6 A Lumb, Lowhills AC, 6.
