AnglingTimes WELCOME

- KEVIN WILMOT DEPUTY EDITOR

WELCOME to your bumper new issue of Angling Times with free Carpfeed magazine too – 144 pages of great fishing news, views, tips and tackle.

We’ve a real mixed bag for you this week, ranging from catfish on the float (honest!), to lure fishing for perch now summer’s nearing its end, to pellet waggler edges with Steve Ringer.

For me the highlight of this week’s issue, though, is the story of Andy Griffith and his two sons Harry and Ben. Now Andy is no stranger to catching sharks, and we have featured his exploits on several occasions in Angling Times.

But for boys of eight and 10 years old to get the opportunity boat 70lb blues, and succeed in doing so, well, it’s the stuff of dreams isn’t it! You can read their story on page 6.

Elsewhere, Drennan Cup champ Dai Gribble’s popular Specimen Secrets series this week features crucians and, in my view, the only way to catch them... on the float. Aren’t they the most frustrating of species?

I remember I used to fish a farm lake for crucians and you had to adopt a very delicate pole approach for these fish, which averaged out at around 1lb 4oz each – lovely little chaps and a real challenge to catch. Which is why I am constantly amazed when I read of the latest three pounder to fall to Method feeder tactics!

Fishing never fails to surprise, and it’s this uncanny knack of producing the unexpected that keeps us coming back for more.

Enjoy the issue, and don’t forget to let us know about your successes on the bank.
