DO YOU STICK OR TWIST ON BAITS?

-

Q Why do bait firms constantly bring out new types of boilie if their last one was so brilliant? Do you change when your sponsors do, or do you prefer to stick with one bait rather than follow fashion? Greg Briers, by email

A Ian Chillcott: I am sure this is a predicament that most bait companies have to dance with on a regular basis but, working for Mainline Baits as I have for 26 years, this has never been the case.

The original Grange, when it was released back in the early 1990s had (I quote) “nearly as much impact on the carp fishing game as the hair-rig did!” Never a truer word said, in my book. We set a fashion which everyone since has attempted to follow. Bringing things more up to date, I have to mention the Cell – the biggest-selling boilie in carp angling history, and for very good reason.

Once again Mainline had developed a bait that is as good today as it was way back then. It opened year-round options, and worked in every environment. It doesn’t get any better than that… does it?

We set a standard and have continued to achieve it by producing different baits. Many simply want to change because they will be doing something different to the other anglers, and of course, there are those that simply get on the bandwagon when something is so good. Who could blame them? It makes sense to cater for everyone’s ideas and wishes. By including the best possible bait ingredients we give the best options for those wanting to change, too.

I have been using Hybrid since 2012, and the second carp I caught on it, on the second night I used it, was a target fish of 44lb 6oz.! It has yet to disappoint me!
