- IAN JONES News Editor

THE best of British fishing will be honoured in the 2018 National Angling Awards, run exclusively by Angling Times.

As voting for the prestigious awards begins today, we are calling on you, our readers, to help find the winners in more than 30 categories.

Now in its 11th year, the National Angling Awards has already recognised an incredible list of superstar anglers, leading tackle innovations, amazing catches, matches, and the fisheries you love to visit.

Honours up for grabs this year include Match, Specimen, and Carp Angler of the Year, Catch of 2018, Team of the Year, TV Show, and Fishing Holiday Destination.

This year will also see several new categories introduced, including Young Angler of the Year, Online Show, Blogger, and a special award for the Unsung Hero of 2018.

Angling Times Editor-in-Chief Steve Fitzpatrick believes there are lots of deserving candidates in what has been an amazing year for our sport.

“We’ve had record fish, massive catches, big match glories, entertaining shows, and some remarkable feats of angling excellence in the past 12 months.

“This is now fishing’s opportunity to honour the people who have stood out, and give them the recognition they have richly earned,” said Steve.

“Every winner will join an historic line-up of previous champions, many of which are household names in fishing.

“The new awards will celebrate the changing face of our sport as more and more anglers enjoy the positive benefits of making their own media and helping in the development of young anglers.

“The Unsung Hero award is a particular favourite of mine as it will highlight the brilliant work of individuals which goes on behind the scenes and makes our sport what it is.”

As in previous seasons, the tackle industry will also be honoured, with anglers given the opportunity to vote on the rods, reels, poles, baits and must-have accessories they feel have earned the right to be best in terms of quality and value for money.

“These are the awards the tackle industry really takes note of, as they’re voted for by readers of Britain’s biggest fishing magazine,” added Angling Times Tackle Editor Mark Sawyer.

“Each year the big manufacturers work hard to create and develop new tackle to help us catch more fish and enjoy our fishing. These awards recognise that effort.

“If you’ve bought an item of tackle you were pleased with, then don’t forget to vote.”

Readers who register their details after voting on our website will be included in the draw to win £50 tackle vouchers.
