ANGLESEY’S OPEN SECRET
Llyn-Y-Gors is the ultimate Welsh angling experience
ON the Isle of Anglesey in North Wales lies Llyn-Y-Gors fishery, a five lake complex offering action-packed fishing for a variety of species.
Lily Pad Pond is the perfect place for novices. The eight-peg pool is stocked with carp, bream, roach, rudd and perch, all of which will readily take a floatfished maggot.
For non-stop pole action the Match Lake offers a central island within 13m pole range. Feeding little and often with maggots or pellets can produce fantastic mixed bags of carp, bream, tench, barbel, chub, perch, crucian, roach and ide.
For just a great day on the bank, the Pleasure Lake takes some beating, whereas if it’s big fish that interest you the site has more than its share. The Karpium and the Old Carp Lake both hold specimen carp to over 20lb.
The Old Carp Lake also offers the chance for visitors to do battle with monster catfish in excess of 45lb. These whiskered predators are often caught on pellets and boilies intended for the carp.
If staying on site there is a choice of two cottages or one chalet accommodation. Each provides beautiful views of the mountains of Snowdonia. This self-catering accommodation is well equipped with everything you need to make your stay comfortable.
For those who prefer to remain a bit closer to the countryside and lakes, the caravan site next to the Match and Pleasure lakes is the perfect place to hook-up. The venue is also home to a very large tackle shop.
It’s not just fishing that will keep you entertained either – there are many beautiful places to visit nearby.
The seaside town of Beaumaris is only a mile away and boasts a variety of shops, cafés and the magnificent Beaumaris Castle.
