NEW BRITISH CARP RECORD COULD BE ‘CAPTAIN JACK’ AT 69lb 10oz...

-

THERE could be a new official British-record carp within three weeks after an angler submitted a claim for a giant mirror from a lake anyone can fish.

The carp, known as Captain Jack, was caught from Cambridgeshire open-access venue Holme Fen by Vinny Parker at 69lb 10oz in September.

The 54-year-old told Carpfeed at the time he was considering claiming the record, and last month he did just that. The British Record Fish Committee will meet at London’s Natural History Museum on November 22 to determine whether or not the fish should be an official record.

BRFC secretary Nick Simmonds told Carpfeed: “He has submitted a claim for 69lb 10oz. I sent him the claim form on October 8 and he has submitted a scales-calibration certificate, dated October 15 and carried out by Norfolk trading standards.”

The current carp record is Dean Fletcher’s capture of the Parrot at 68lb 1oz from Wasing in 2016.

At the time of catching Captain Jack, Vinny told us: “Obviously we are just going to be plagued by haters, but I would like to claim it for the simple reason that I’ve been fishing since 1982 for carp and I’m no spring chicken – this is the five minutes of fame that I’ve been dreaming of for 36 years.”

Like all the stocked fish in Holme Fen, Captain Jack is of the Israeli Dor-70 strain and was imported into this country at 2lb-3lb and grown on. He was stocked into Meadows Lake at the two-water site in 2011 as an upper thirty.
