TIE STEVE’S WINTER CORN RIG
CUT-DOWN FLOAT
Bearing in mind I’m fishing in just two foot of water today my float choice is a 4x10 MW Steady, the stem of which I’ve shortened slightly so it’s suited to such shallow water.
Once the water goes clear I really believe light floats produce more bites, hence I’ve opted for a 4x10 version here.
LINES
Mainline is 0.17mm N-Gauge to a 6ins hooklength of 0.16mm Pure Fluorocarbon.
The more I use fluorocarbon at this time of the year, the more convinced I am that it makes a difference.
You’ll notice that I’ve also switched from my usual 4ins hooklength to one of 6ins.
I always prefer a longer hooklength for carp in the cold as it allows the hookbait that little bit
more movement.
SHOTTING PATTERN
This is a loosely-strung bulk of No11 shot with the bottom shot 6ins from the hook and the rest of the droppers spaced at 1ins intervals above this. A slow-falling hookbait is so important, therefore the strung bulk is the perfect shotting pattern.
LIGHT BUT STRONG
Hook choice is a size 16 Guru Super LWG. This is a strong, yet relatively lightweight hook, which lends itself to a variety of different baits. Single or double grains of corn both sit nicely on it.
