ENGLAND BOSS TO STEP DOWN AFTER WORLD GAMES
CARP Team England manager Rob Hughes has announced he is to step down after this year’s event in order to take up a role with FIPS, angling’s world governing body’s organising committee.
In a move similar to that made by coarse team manager Dick Clegg in early 2000, Rob, who also manages the England Ladies carp team, will help to steer the future of international carp fishing events, providing technical knowledge and experience.
He will also work on a plan to help fishing win a place in the Olympic Games.
“I’m leaving the squads in a good place,” said Rob. “We’re ranked third in the world and have great squads with good reputations.
“Managing the Men’s and Ladies teams is too big a job for one person now and so we’ll appoint two managers.
“As this year’s event is early, it gives the incoming Men’s manager 18 months to work with the squad and get ready for the next World Championships.”
