ANGLING guide and former Drennan Cup champ Julian Chidgey targeted the River Parrett in Somerset to catch a 3lb 12oz perch.
He says: “From the town stretch in Langport pike can be caught on deadbait and lure tactics. Best results come from close to overhanging trees and bridges. The signal crayfish mean perch are piling on weight fast. Weedless presentations using small, soft plastic lures give the best results amid the snags.
“The big perch (pictured) was on one of my own Inspired Angling 6cm Shads and matching 5gm jig head,” added the Shimano-backed predator ace. “The spot that produced the fish was where fry had held up during floods and I timed it just right, landing 17 perch and three pike in a couple of hours.” CONTACT: Tackle UK, 01935 476777 PRICES: £4 per day, £1 per day (juniors)
