Stop pinching zander from these lure clubs

-

STOP taking our zander! My local Ashby Canal has been elecrofished yet again.

The contractors for the Canal and River Trust are taking more than just zander – carp have disappeared too, as have large pike. A few clubs rent stretches of Midlands canals and one is a lure fishing club who fish for zander, pike and perch. How can it be right to remove species that these anglers pay for fish for?

Surely this barbaric and outdated practice must stop. It’s now a money-making thing, selling zander for food.

Rather than taking all the zander to protect the silver fish, they leave all the small ones which do the most damage! If zander are left alone, a balance will be achieved. Ian Hannaby, email
