Clear-conscience carp

IN REPLY to the letter ‘Double Standards When It Comes To Supermarke­t Carp’ (January 15 issue) it’s obvious to me that these are farmed carp, bred specifical­ly for the supermarke­t shelf.

Why not complain about the salmon or trout lying next to them on the fish counter?

The fact is, they are all farm-bred for the table. No-one has gone down to the local lake and caught them and sold them to Tesco.

It’s no good ranting at the poor assistant – my wife had to explain to one young man on the tills in the same supermarke­t that it was leeks she was buying. He did not know what a leek was. David Bland, Potter Heigham
