HAVING spent many years working in a busy tackle shop, I know how important these places are in the community, and exactly why Graham Duckworth is re-opening one in Leeds (P8&9).

Back in my old shop, some days were more akin to a ‘drop in’ community centre rather than an actual business.

The shop was a hub of great information fed in from anglers who fished lots of different waters, and it served as an ‘operations room’ for the local match squads too.

However, fishing has changed massively since then, as have our buying habits, and these ‘corner shops’ have borne the brunt of these changes.

So it’s refreshing to hear someone is prepared to take a punt, open a shop, and serve the local area again.

I wish Graham all the best, and if you’re near central Leeds make sure you support the new shop and all it stands for.
