RECOMMENDED PEATLING POOLS, LUTTERWORTH, LEICS

-

THIS commercial complex offers a host of lakes to target. Main attractions for day ticket holders are Malcolm, Magna and Parva Pools.

Malcolm, the largest of the three, holds a good head of large carp to upper double figures. These fish often oblige in the cold and fall to the usual popular techniques.

Alongside the carp are large roach, perch, bream and chub.

On Malcolm Pool the waggler is a good bet for a mixed catch, with standard baits such as maggots, meat, corn, worms and pellets all effective.

The Point and Island areas are good starting points, with the margins on the Point Swim dropping to around 7ft.

Parva Pool is the smallest on the complex and is relatively shallow. However, specimens of many species are present. This pool is noted for its large roach and perch, which run to well over 3lb. These big stripeys and redfins can be caught on simple float tactics just a couple of rodlengths from the bank.

Parva is a very good pole water, with not so many carp present as in the nearby Malcolm Pool.

Other species likely to show are chub, bream and some immaculate barbel.

The final pool, Magna, is the original peat pool at Peatling. It holds impressive stocks of smaller roach, rudd, carp, perch and bream. Most anglers once again opt for the pole on this water and fish towards the island or down the margins.
