Pick the right quiver tip

-

4 Ensure you have a range of different strength quivertips so you can use one that matches the conditions.

Aim for one that bends 3cm-4cm around from the line of the rod. This ensures there is still plenty of flexibility left in the tip. This will minimise the resistance felt by a biting fish, vital when fishing for perch and chub.

If the tip is bent round further you lose the benefit, as a biting fish will be pulling against the main body of the rod and will feel more resistance.

If too powerful a quivertip is used a biting fish will feel resistance immediately it takes your bait. Think of the tip as a spring – if it’s already stretched to its limit it won’t stretch any further, and if it’s too powerful it won’t offer any cushioning effect. In light flows I’ll often use a 0.75oz tip. As flows increase I’ll go up in steps to a maximum of 2oz.
