BEAT UNEVEN BOTTOMS

-

Q How do I tackle a swim that is uneven on the bottom? A Make sure you plumb the depth really carefully to build up a mental picture of the contours of the riverbed.

If you’re fishing well out in the river, use a waggler with very little shot down the line. This way, you will be able to fish overdepth in parts, at dead depth in others, and also off the bottom without the float dragging under. Keep experimenting with the depth.

For close-in work, use a strungout stick float rig with very little shot in the bottom 3ft.

Experiment with depth and use a dome top instead of a thin top to give yourself a bit of buoyancy so the float doesn’t drag under.
