R&J PIPEWORK MASTERS (WEDS)

Decoy Lakes, Beastie, Four Islands, Six Islands, Horseshoe, Willows, Lou’s, Damson, Elm, Cedar, Oak & Yew Lakes (216 pegs)

A SUPERB attendance of 216 anglers battled it out for the £6,000 prize in this match and it was Sheffield man Andrew Morley who came out on top with a mammoth 267-1-0 haul, earning that big cheque plus an extra £1,000 from the superpool.

He was well clear of runnerup Sam Brown, who was second in the same event two years ago. He bagged 232-5-0 to earn himself over £2,000. Youngster Zak Worby completed the top three.

Kinky Pellet Club rod Andrew drew peg 8 on Beastie Lake, a corner that can be hit and miss, but with the wind blowing up to his end of the lake he fancied the job. A

combination of dobbing tactics on the long pole and margin fishing saw him land carp to 18lb, plus a few F1s. Sam, on end peg 16 of Oak Lake, fished a similar match for some big carp and F1s.

“My plan was to mug some fish on the long pole early and then come into the margins,” said Andrew.

“I took nine carp at 11m in the opening stages using 6mm pellet, but had fed the edges from the off and there were fish there almost immediately but they were difficult to catch early on.”

However, with two hours of the match remaining, the right-hand side of Andrew’s peg came good and, fishing on just a top kit with a bunch of dead maggots on the hook, he began to motor, bagging big fish regularly. He fed heavily with 10 pints micro pellets by hand over the top. result: 1 A Morley, Kinky Pellet Club, 267-1-0;
