CARP FOR PENNIES!

Britain’s cheapest-ever carp up for sale after mega spawning

- CHRIS HAYDON News reporter

AFISH farm in Kent has over half-a-billion carp for sale... and you can buy a share of them for just pennies apiece!

The family-run Babylon Fish Farm put the offer out on social media for fisheries and clubs to step forward and buy a selection of carp and F1s for as little as £100 for a thousand fish.

The super-low price tag is the result of a massive overproduction of fish owing to the warm, late spring and early summer – leading to one of the most productive springs ever for the southern fish farm.

Babylon’s manager Jason Dorkings hasn’t seen a season like it in more than 25 years in the industry.

“It’s been one of our best

spawning springs ever thanks to a late start to the warm weather, an abundance of natural food in the ponds and a 98 per cent spawning success rate,” he revealed.

“As a farm we produce over 70 tonnes of fish a year and the majority of these fry will go into our ponds, where they will grow to 1lb in weight before being sold on to some of the country’s best fisheries including Woodland View, Partridge Lakes, Tunnel Barn Farm and Bradshaw Hall.

“With just three staff it’s a lot of work, and our fish feed bill is close to £1,000 a day to keep the millions of fish healthy and growing well.

“It’s all worth it, though, to see the farm doing well and have an increase in orders year on year.”

Already 200,000 fish have been purchased but there are plenty still to go around.

As well as traditional carp, Babylon also sells F1s and F1 ghosts.
