Impressive Anglers Paradise pair weigh only 11oz short of 100lb...
SCOTT Brown came within a whisker of banking a 100lb brace of carp during a remarkable trip to a day-ticket and holiday complex.
Fishing on the Kracking Carp Lake at Anglers Paradise in Devon, he landed two of the venue’s biggest mirrors at 52lb 3oz and 47lb 2oz, obliterating his personal best in the process.
The 35-year-old, from Mansfield, Notts, said: “On arrival, I could see that there were two other anglers at one end of the lake so I decided to head to the other, hoping that the lower angling pressure would increase my chances.
“After baiting up with crushed boilies, hemp and sweetcorn, I cast out and got a good drop on each rod.
“The first day and night passed without a bleep, but I knew I’d got everything right so I decided to not recast or introduce more bait. “My patience paid off because at first light the left-hand rod slowly trundled off and I struck into what immediately felt like a really good fish.
“The fight was slow and ponderous, and when the fish rolled I couldn’t believe my eyes at the sheer size of it. I knew straight away that I’d hooked the legendary Silverback, my first 50lb-plus carp!”
The session was due to get even better for Scott, who inadvertently pre-empted the next fish he was due to catch, as he explained.
“That afternoon the bailiff came to see me and I said I’d had Silverback, so the big mirror known as The Parrot was next on my list.
“Never in my wildest dreams did I think this would become reality, but at about the same time the next morning one of my alarms started screaming. A much darker fish came up to the surface and I saw the distinctive mouth that gives the fish its name. With my knees shaking, I managed to land the beast at 47lb 2oz!
“It’s a session that will live long in my memory as one of my greatest angling achievements. I doubt I’ll ever catch two fish with a combined weight just 11oz off 100lb!”
