MIKE’S PET HITS THE BANK...JUST!
GAVIN Campbell finally got to cradle the huge mirror known as Mike’s Pet when he banked it after a two-year quest on Kingsmead Island Lake.
But netting the 52lb 4oz giant after getting the all-important bite was far from straightforward, as Gavin explained:
“Just before dark I received a couple of bleeps on the alarm and as I looked out at the spot a tufted duck shot off looking distressed.”
“After a couple more bleeps I jumped into my boat and wound down to the fish, but as I got over the top of it I realised that I’d left my net on the bank...120yds away! I shouted to my mate who was fishing and luckily he heard and brought me a net over in his own boat. I owe him big time, because I have no idea what I would have done without him.”
Gavin used a Sticky Yellow One pop-up over chops and tigers.
