All the pleasure lakes, particular­ly South Lake, are home to an excellent head of roach. Skimmers, crucians and perch can also be encountere­d.

The margins on Alice Springs Lake are well worth fishing. Along with good numbers of roach, you’ll also pick up some good perch.

THE OAKS LAKES, SESSAY, NORTH YORKSHIRE

Willows Lake holds some excellent roach, and these can be caught on both pole and waggler. Bonus skimmers are also likely to put in an appearance at some point in your session.

MIDLANDS NASEBY RESERVOIR, NASEBY, NORTHAMPTO­NSHIRE

The vast Naseby reservoir holds specimen roach to 2lb alongside lots of smaller fish. The waggler can be very effective, but beware of the monster carp that also inhabit this water!

Beastie Lake is the place to go for a bag of roach. Huge catches are on the cards, but you’ll also pick up barbel, F1s and carp.

All the pleasure lakes are worth a try, but Malcolm Pool would be our pick. Try a swim facing the main lake and expect some big F1s alongside the roach.

Syndicate Lake often throws up great bags of roach simply by fishing maggots on the pole. There are also some big carp.
